These grapes were sourced from a vineyard in Stellenbosch. The vines are planted on a steep slope in granite rich soils. The grapes were harvested in mid-March, before being whole bunch pressed, and the juice was then settled in tank overnight. The juice was racked off the gross lees and taken to old 600L French oak barrels, where it underwent a spontaneous fermentation, and then was aged in barrel for another 5 months on the lees before bottling.
ABOUT THE WINEMAKER:
Natasha Jacka’s background is in chefing, and like many ex-chefs, found herself falling in love with wine alongside food. In 2017, she decided to take a break from Cape Town’s kitchens, and worked her first harvest at Cape Point Vineyards, a definitive moment in her journey into wine. It was from there that she went on to study winemaking at Elsenburg, and then went on to bottle her first wine under the Alinea label in 2021.
Up until now, Natasha has been working with négoce fruit, but excitingly, has planted two small blocks (a co-planted white vineyard, and another with just Syrah) in Noordhoek, just a stone’s throw from the centre of Cape Town. Her first two wines tell a story of a curious winemaker bursting with passion and talent, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.
